A
series of reports in the local press indicates the difficulties experienced both by the
aerodrome's local population, and the aerodrome in trying to ameliorate noise. An article
from 06/07/00 reports on a new circuit pattern to the north of the local
town following complaints from the residents in the south of the town about noise. Three
months later an article dated 20/10/00 reports on an amended circuit procedure which sees traffic
routed in one of four different patterns in order to diffuse the overall noise impact. A
further article covering this change dated 19/10/00 shows on the one hand the aerodrome's desire for access to
aircraft silencers, whilst on the other the council's intent to use the proposed DETR legislation to impose controls.
Finally, an article dated 09/11/00
reports the council's intention, prompted by the high level of noise complaints, to spend
£16,000 investigating whether the 70 year old aerodrome is in breach of planning rules. |
