Local
Oxfordshire press reports that the ex-RAF airfield at Bicester is to be spared from large
scale housing development. Original plans called for the airfield to be redeveloped to
accommodate 1,500 new homes, but this has now been scaled back to 300 new homes on the
North Western corner of the airfield. Further information published in the March edition
of Pilot magazine reports that the site has been acquired by the Grove 2000 consortium
which intends to preserve the airfield's Grade II listed buildings. Grove 2000 was
previously reported by the local press in October 1999 as intending to develop the site as
an aviation heritage centre with a range of indoor and outdoor sports facilities which
would also allow gliding to continue from the airfield. |
