A news item
posted on the AOPA web site on 18th March indicates that Birmingham Airport is planning on
introducing a departure tax. The tax, if adopted,
will have a significant impact on GA operations at the airport. It is reported that
aircraft under 10 tonnes MTOW will be charged £114 for departures during peak periods,
which the AOPA article suggests is 14 hours a day.
We understand that a meeting was held at the airport in
April. It is reported that a final decision on this tax was deferred for 3 months, on the
basis that such a measure contravenes the terms of the airport license which does not
allow such discrimination. |
