Cambridge Airport |
|
"Cambridge
Airport provides an essential gateway into Marshall Aerospaces hangars for a wide
variety of aircraft ranging from light piston engined aircraft to Boeing 747 aircraft for
British Airways. Marshall Aerospace is also extensively involved in maintenance,
modification and repair of a wide range of corporate executive jet aircraft, including
Cessna, Gulfstream and Bombardier Global Express. Cambridge Airport also supports a wide
variety of general aviation movements to help the local community, including the
University, racing at Newmarket and a wide range of emerging high tech businesses. Five
flying training schools are also based on the Airfield. The recently elected Liberal
Democrat Council have, without any prior consultation or discussions with Marshall of
Cambridge, announced that they would like to use the land currently occupied by the
Airport for housing development and have suggested that the Airfield should move
elsewhere. This would be a hugely expensive undertaking. It would also be highly
disruptive to the business of Marshall Aerospace. In the meantime, Marshall of Cambridge
continues to invest in the Airfield and its facilities. A new Instrument Landing System
and associated approach lights were installed during late 1999, a new control tower was
commissioned in the Spring of the year 2000 and a new area radar is in the course of
installation."
