Community
Relations |
The
elitist image that is attached, unfairly, to our community, and the apparent apathy within
our community isolates us, marginalises us, and makes us easy prey for politicians,
councils, and lobbyists. By the active promotion of the benefits of an airfield as an
asset to the local community, we can make it a good deal more difficult for opposition
campaigns to gather momentum. |
|
As an active flyer you can help GA, and your airfield in particular, by seizing
upon any opportunity to open up GA in your area to the wider local community. You can do
this on an individual basis, simply by taking up non-flying friends for a
jolly around the local area. If every one of the 35,000+ private pilots took
up just 3 non-flyers per year, thats over 100,000 more friends of GA in the
non-flying community. You might also arrange events for local community groups, from
school visits to the airfield, to free pleasure flights, to full blown charity events. |
|
By presenting aviation as a community asset in this manner we are able to
diminish the fertile recruiting grounds that the anti-aviation lobbies have been able to
exploit. |
